It is not surprising when tennis number one Roger Federer was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for the third consecutive year 2005, 2006 and now 2007. The 25-year-old Swiss now made another mark when he became the first sportsman to receive the award three times since it was granted in 2000 for the golfer Tiger Woods, who is second in the mark, winning the award twice in 2000 and 2001.

The panel of the Laureus World Sports Academy composed of 42 members, took Federer to the honor of leading a group of finalists that included world No. 1 Woods Golf and former Formula One champion Michael Schumacher.

He continued to show constant domination of men's tennis in 2006 to win three Grand Slam titles with his victories at the Open Australian, Wimbledon and U.S. Open.

Yelena Isinbayeva, Russia's record advanced vaulter, won the prize for Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year. Isinbayeva broke the world record Pole Vault 20th when he established a new brand within 4.93 meters in February. He seemed pleased to receive recognition for their outstanding achievements after three Applications for the scholarship.
