What time is best to watch people surf?

I'm in San Diego in October and want to watch people surf. What is the best when the day to do it? Surf like a tide or high tide or low tide? Thank you in advance. Sorry if these questions are stupid – I'm from Chicago – Surf n truly here!

Different tidal disturbances are different. There are some great breaks at low tide, while others are tall and others may be better in a rising or falling tide. Every place is different. However, if the waves at dawn when most of its core surfers are out. People will look in the water before The Kooks and tourists who come (or if you are old like me, not ashamed in front of a crowd!). In addition, the lots or surfers actually have a job and try to get a session before having to go to work. It is almost always less crowded early in the morning, and it is much more peaceful. The first time people are caught in a "Dawn Patrol" morning. 6:30 / 9:30. After this is a throw of dice.
