How do I move a grandfather clock in a 10 ft rental moving truck?

    Stand it upright and tie it off from the wall. Put some bubble wrap around the movements and chains so the don’t rattle around and tangle up. Keep it protected so other furniture doesn’t slide into it and damage it. Be careful driving so you don’t take sharp or sudden movements. Good luck

    Certainly some valid suggestions so far. I’ll offer a few. Years ago I moved a Grandfather clock.

    Standing is best, and get moving pads to wrap it in, BUT the bubble wrap suggestion is a good one, though I’d remove the pendulum and weights. I’ll assume the body has some glass to it, so the inside can be packed, but any damage will come from the outside. I’d probably bubble wrap the entire clock, then wrap with moving pads, then some come along straps to secure it.

    If it’s the only piece of furniture being moved, I’d get it as close to the front wall of the truck as possible to reduce chances of shifting. I might even do overkill with some pads or furniture foam, an air bed, kids blow up pool floaters, etc.
