History of Steeplechase Horse Racing

The sport of jump racing dates back to 1752 when two half-Irish, "used a pileup, friends settled the argument of who is the best racehorse in the tower of the church closest to his return from fox hunting. The winner actually toured the church where the pastor was the holding a solemn funeral. Soon spread to England, where in 1792 the first recorded race took place. The sport is crossed from the Atlantic to the United States, where it became very popular.

In the 19th century nine prominent men of New York – August Belmont, H. DeCourcy Forbes, Samuel S. Howland, James O. Green, Frederick Gebhard, AJ Cassatt, Foxhall P. Keene, John G. Follansbee and Frederick H. Prince founded the National Association for the steeplechase. At its inception, its mission was to make the sport popular in the United States and help grow across the Atlantic. Steeplechase races are held in 12 states across the country and stock accumulated for these events are $ 5 million per year. Horse racing is a place for see and be seen.
