Question on the chemical bond in quartz?

I'm confused! Some say that the textbooks quartz is 100% linked covalently and other say it is the combination of ionic and covalent bonds. My opinion is that it should be purely covalent as we talk about Si-O connections (both non-metals, ionic bonds involving metals and nonmetals). If quartz is partially covalent and ionic, then why not publish this behavior? Any help would be appreciated. So is it true that Impurites in quartz are very small (like Ti, Fe or Al) and, as such, does not change its chemical compostion?

First link is no purely ionic or covalent. Are extremely theoretical perspective. All forms chemical bonds are made from a mixture of both in different proportions.
