Woodcarving: So You Want to Be a Wood Carver

Woodcarving is an art. It requires extreme patience that could flourish with a good imagination. If you decide to become a wood carver, you have several styles to choose from. You can use only a piece of wood and a small knife. Or you can go as far as using power tools. So how do you know that May is the best style for you?

There are five main styles of woodcarving. Each style is markedly different. These styles are whittling, chip carving, relief carving, sculpture and intaglio sculpture in the round.

? whittling. Whittling involves removing stop bullets or pieces of wood with a knife. It is the simplest form of wood carving, but not really the art of woodcarving. This whittling distinction is important, it is, and must always be very simple. All you need is a piece of wood and a knife and you're ready. And because it is so simple, the wings of objects does not have more details, as in all other styles of woodcarving.

When the wings to take an object in hand, you know absolutely. You can clearly see each knife stroke. Remains as simple as when it began centuries ago, at the time of the cave. Is this not incredible?

? chip carving. Chip carving involves the use of several knives to remove small pieces of wood (chips) on a flat surface wood. It is mainly chip knives that are used for pushing or pulling the wood, cutting upwards or downwards to free each chip.

Chip carving was expanded to become its own art form. The main technique is different triangular wood chips. This is done in a way that creates intimately detailed ways that are often in nature. Free-form lines are regularly used to accentuate these chipped patterns. You can really let your imagination.

? Relief sculpture. This type of sculpture is on a plane returning from the timber cut in 3D image mode. These are the wooden sculptures you see on the wall or table or sitting area.

There are two types of relief carving. A bas-relief carving is identifiable by the visual effect that is created. Without the deep shade average height, it seems very little and is considered low stress. Sculptures in high relief, a spectacular depth effect is created by the addition of shadow everywhere. Both types of sculptures result of a good size and detail. The final product is polished to create a smooth surface. Can be painted, varnished or waxed.

? Intaglio sculpture. This style of wood carving is very similar to the relief sculpture. But instead of research if it is above the wood surface, it seems that this is part of the forest. The reason is that the design is deeply etched in the wood below the surface. Think of old wooden rolling pins. Remember the little images that were carved on it? The hollow sculpture.

Intaglio sculpture was very popular among furniture manufacturers. Was to be supplied with a white carved separately and then inserted into the furniture. What do you think? It can be found on the tables and bedroom furniture. Is wonderful for wood paneling. You can even see on plates, as part of a decorative object or the surface of coffee tables and end tables.

? sculpture round. This is the most advanced wood carving style. It is a sculpture that can be seen from all angles. It is sculpted wood and its base support platform or a pedestal. May the size of a person, an animal or a landscape almost anything you can imagine. It could be the size or scale. The sky is almost the limit with carving in the round.

This style of carving a number of tools. A variety knives, chisels and gouges are a minimum. The use of power tools, it is not surprising and often expected. The final product is generally very dramatic. Often, a product of the height of the tower is easily confused with the creation of a porcelain. The details are impressive.

Woodcarving has existed since the days of Cavemen. Over time, has become an art for the view. It is very relaxing, exciting and often rewarding. If you're looking a hobby, wood carving may be just what you want.
