Vision greatly contributes to the perception of the child world. Naturally, many parents are concerned about the vision of your child. In infants, however, severe conditions of the eye and blindness are rare. May babies have eye problems, so control eye remains an important part of child care. Here are some eye conditions that can occur in infants.

Two weeks after design, eyes begin to develop. Over the next four weeks all eyes in the form of large structures. Meanwhile, the eye is particularly vulnerable to injury. If the mother takes drugs or infected with rubella, for example, the eye-May be incorrect or damaged. During September last months of pregnancy, the eye is still growing and maturing, and the nerve that connects the eye to the brain (optic nerve) is formed.

At birth a baby of the eye is about 75 percent the size of an adult eye. The coming years are very important for the development of the eye. During the first two years of life, the optic nerve, visual function and internal structures to develop of the eye.

Considering that the adult would have a perfect 20/20 vision, infant visual acuity (sharpness of vision) is approximately 20/400. This is equivalent to what the large letter "E" in a graphical view. By age two, his vision has improved slightly closer to the 20/20. Color vision is present at birth, unless a child is born colorblind.

Newborns in the first is not much attention to the visual world, but usually flashes when the light shines in your eyes. The first screening takes place in the newborn nursery. The pediatrician performs a screening eye exam to detect infections or structural problems with the eyes: Bad eyelids, cataracts, glaucoma and other abnormalities. When the baby is 6 months old, the pediatrician should check the alignment of the eyes the baby and the visual, or how the light is focused, and remains an object.

Pediatricians can treat eye problems, such as simple Pinkeye. If you or your doctor thinks your baby has an eye problem, which in May need medical or surgical treatment, the child must be referred to an ophthalmologist. No child is too young for an eye examination.

A medical examination of the eyes of a baby is similar to that adults. The doctor assesses the baby's medical history, vision, eye muscles and structures of the eye. The doctor assesses the baby's vision by observing the following. The child reacts to bright light in their eyes? The baby looks like a face or a toy bear on the road? Other, more sophisticated vision tests in May to use if necessary.

Eye drops are used to temporarily extend the students for further examination of the eye. The drops can take 30 to 90 minutes job. The doctor then uses a tool to test the eyes of baby myopia (see things more closely), hyperopia (seeing things better, as far away) or astigmatism (where the rays into the eyes are not aligned, resulting in blurred vision). Most children are farsighted at birth, but usually not at a level that requires glasses. However, a baby including a newborn you can wear glasses if necessary.

Finally, the ophthalmologist uses an instrument with a lighted magnifying glass to look into the eyes.
