How do I clean stains from my antique copper patina verdigris without damaging it?

I have an old dry wells (1780) with a copper coating on top. When I moved recently and got up and looked down the line, there are several small circles of color blue-green. I do not eat these by the copper or whatever (solid, for the song 50 years ago) I want to get rid of them, but I like the spots brown patina penny if you do not want all Poles bright, either.
